Priest’s stardom began with his cover of Cat Stevens’ classic “Wild World.” This gave him his first U.S. smash hit, while his duet with Beres Hammond “How can we ease the pain” gained him worldwide recognition. Party goers at the closing concert of the 30th regatta will enjoy other record-breaking tracks including Close to You, Set The Night To Music House Call and many more. The energetic duet with Shaggy “That Girl,” a lasting favourite, will definitely be on the playlist for the evening. Most recently, Priest has been on the great Reggae Sunsplash Tour with legends UB40, Toots and the Maytals, Third World, and Rik Rok.
Heineken Commercial Director with International Liquors and Tobacco (ILTT) John Leone is more than pleased with the choice of Priest. “For this 30th anniversary, we had the challenge to find an act that would appeal to a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. We know that Maxi Priest has that appeal, and his music is perfect to dance to, with your feet in the sand and a cold Heineken in your hand.”
Sunday’s celebrations, organized by Heineken, St. Maarten Yacht Club and UTS Chippie, kick off at 4:00pm on Kim Sha Beach in Simpson Bay, St Maarten. The concert will also feature an assortment of local and international entertainment as well as the final prize giving ceremony.
The four-day regatta, the biggest in the Caribbean, will conclude with Priest’s performance later that night and it promises to be an unforgettable experience. Other acts that have been announced for St. Maarten Heineken Regatta weekend, which starts on Thursday March 4th , are Ziggi and Maikal X from Holland with the Renaissance Band. Other entertainment highlights will be released in the coming days.
