Online Website Replaces the U.S Virgin Islands Tourism Office May 13

The internet has proven itself that it has arrived to our modern day form of communication to stay.  Actions such as those recently taken by the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism have reinforced this ongoing tendency.

Beverly Nicholson Doty, Commissioner to the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, announced that it will close the department’s physical locations and that all procedures will be handled online.  In addition, the closing of the Department of Tourism’s offices will also come to alleviate the organization’s financial burden.

This past weekend, the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism closed its offices in Atlanta, Georgia and will proceed to close the offices in Miami, New York and Washington D.C.  In 2007, the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism had closed their offices in Los Angeles as well as Chicago.

Nicholson-Doty also added that by including a virtual online point of sales, the department not only sought to increase sales, but also to save important sums of money.

By having a strong online presence, the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism can reach out to a much larger population.  In addition, potential visitors to the U.S. Virgin Islands can learn about the islands as well as create trip planners and personalized itineraries all on their own time and pace.
